The 3rd Annual Spiritual Conference of the Union of the Oromo Evangelical Churches in Europe has successfully concluded on Sunday 22nd July 2012. The 4 daylong Conference, hosted by Oromo Evangelical Church of London, officially commenced on Thursday 19th July with the opening speech made by the chairman of the Union, obbo Melkamu Duresso. Guest speakers on the Conference include Evangelist Fikru Eticha(USA), Marga Nagari(Germany) and Rev. Barnabas Daniel(UK). The preachers based their teachings on the theme of the Conference which was: “make my joy complete...being one in spirit and purpose”, Phil 2:2. They emphasised the need to overcome ‘social phobia’ in order to promote the Gospel among the scattered Oromo Diasporas.
One of the unforgettable moments during UOECE 3rd annual conference was when the choral group of the host church performed its uplifting songs and hymns. This choral group has truely graced this annual continental conference by performing its inspiring songs and hymens. Moreover, together with the choir members of the sister churches of Oslo and Frankfurt, the choir group of the host church has ministered diligently by leading the worship throughout the conference with a true sense of togetherness and unity.
There was a real sense of unity and togetherness in Christ as many people representing their churches managed to come together, not only from all over the UK but also from various European countries - despite the challenges at the Immigration Desks due to the London Olympiad which was about to be kicked off just within a week after this conference.
Also as the Conference was live-streamed on the internet, many Oromo believers from around the globe got the chance to watch the program from day one to the end of the program.
Prior to the opening ceremony, the Council of the Union had its annual business meeting in which the Chairman presented the annual report and new plan for the coming year. The council accepted the report and approved the plan and budget of the Union for the year ahead. In addition, the Council elected new executive committee members. Accordingly, Robsan Mako becomes the new chairman of the Union to lead UOECE for the next two years. Obbo Melkamu Duresso, Obbo Cheru Batu, Obbo Tolera Sime and Obbo Temesgen Dhibasa will be serving in the board of directors as vice chairman, secretary, treasurer and member of the board respectively. Moreover, OSEG, a member church of the Union based in Germany, joyfully accepted to host the UOECE 2013 Conference.
All in all it was a wonderful Conference in every way. In conclusion, the Oromo Evangelical Church of London, together with UOECE, would like to extend its appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the Conference.
